It has been another eventful month for the CYO. Here are some highlights from the month of February..
On February 12, the CYO performed in the lobby of Glendale Memorial Hospital. This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to perform and for members of the community to hear them. This picture features our students and teachers with Bonnie Butler-Sibbald, Volunteer Coordinator at Glendale Memorial who coordinated the event. The previous week the students performed a short concert for their parents at Cerritos Elementary School.
Instruments continue to be contributed to the CYO and have been completely refurbished at Charles Music. We can still use trumpets, saxophones, and flutes so, if you have an instrument you would like to donate, please contact Dave Ferguson – Dave@mycyo.org. The students are really progressing and we’re nearly ready to transition them from recorders to actual orchestral instruments. That means if we’re unable to collect enough donated instruments we’re going to need to purchase new ones in order for the students to stay on track.
During the month of February CYO added Forest Lawn to our group of Supporters. We are grateful to each of the corporations and foundations who have chosen to support us. Additionally we currently have two proposals in front of foundations and the initial response is very positive. We look forward to working with each of these foundations as they complete their evaluation of CYO. We are continuing to receive numerous donations from individuals and welcome your donation for the following:
- Donations of $25 from March 1-May 31 will go toward our Summer Music Camp (see below)
- Donations of $100 will help fund a new instrument or allow us to refurbish an instrument for a CYO student
There are several ways in which you can do this. You may donate at our website, www.mycyo.org or send a donation to CYO, 610 E. California Ave, Glendale 91206. We also encourage you to support us when you make a purchase on Amazon, bookmark this link http://smile.amazon.com/ch/46-4317796, so all your eligible shopping will benefit the Caesura Youth Orchestra. We are a 501(c)(3) non profit, so all donations are tax deductible.
We are grateful to the volunteers who help the CYO with it’s mission. In addition to our wonderful Board of Directors, we have students from Glendale High school who regularly come to assist during our classes. We also welcome Tess Shishido who is volunteering as a writer and researcher for grants. Would you like to be one of our volunteers? Contact Dave Ferguson, Dave@mycyo.org.
On March 8, students of the CYO will be guests of the Glendale Youth Orchestra for their concert at the Alex Theatre at 7 PM. We would welcome any of our friends to join us at this concert and support the Glendale Youth Orchestra and the wonderful contribution they make to our city.
On March 15, students of CYO will be guests of the New Valley Symphony for their concert at Liberty Hall in the Hollywood Hills Forest Lawn at 2 PM. Music Director, Dr. Phoenix Delgado recently introduced the flute to the students.
Plans are underway for the inaugural Summer Music Camp for the CYO. It will be held on the campus of Roosevelt Middle School from June 8-July 10. Students will have four hours of music Monday through Friday including music education, sectional rehearsals and full orchestra rehearsals. More details will be shared as we approach this event.
Watch for next month’s newsletter where we’ll announce our big SPRING EVENT. You won’t want to miss it!
