SUMMER MUSIC CAMP
On June 6, we begin our second Summer Music Camp at Roosevelt Middle School. Each day, Monday through Friday, students will be immersed in music from 9 AM to 1 PM. The day will include rhythm exercises, vocal training and group instruction and rehearsals on their instruments. This year we have a larger group of students joining the string section of the orchestra including new students on violin, viola and cello. The Summer Camp will conclude with a public performance on Friday, July 8 at 7 PM in the auditorium at the Roosevelt Middle School. We encourage you to come and hear what the students have learned. While we have received funding for instruments, we still need funds for our professional teachers for the Summer Music Camp. Please help us by making a donation to provide scholarship funds for our students. Go to www.mycyo.org and click on the DONATE button.
As the school year concluded at Cerritos our students participated in the Spring Festival. The recorder students performed a selection, followed by the woodwinds and the strings and a final number with both the recorders and the strings. On May 11, two of our string students were invited to perform for a special reception at Opus Bank (a sponsor to Caesura Youth Orchestra). During the last week of school students were introduced to their new instruments. They will begin learning to play these instruments during the summer.
On May 25, thirty-three students and four teachers from Cerritos Elementary spent at afternoon exploring music history at the Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles. The Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation provided funding for admission and transportation to make this exciting field trip possible for our students.
This past week we received word that we have been awarded a grant of $9,350 from Community Foundation of the Verdugos for instruments to be part of the inventory of the Caesura Youth Orchestra. We are so excited to receive this important funding for Caesura; we were in need of additional instruments for our Summer Music Camp that will now be possible through this grant. Watch for a Press Release.
